Sa m\u00e8re Atta s&rsquo;est empress\u00e9e de l&#8217;emmener dans plusieurs h\u00f4pitaux dans l&rsquo;espoir d&rsquo;un traitement. \u00e0 grandir presque normalement. Mais petit \u00e0 petit, ses camarades la rejetaient.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ma fille me r\u00e9p\u00e9tait sans cesse : <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00ab\u00a0Je veux continuer \u00e0 \u00e9tudier\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0\u00bb<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, raconte Atta. <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00ab\u00a0Mais lorsqu&rsquo;elle allait \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9cole, ses amis se moquaient d&rsquo;elle et elle revenait en pleurant\u00a0\u00bb.<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A\u00een\u00e9e d&rsquo;une fratrie de sept enfants, Khoudia a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 un lien tr\u00e8s fort avec sa m\u00e8re. Elle aidait sa m\u00e8re \u00e0 \u00e9lever ses quatre fr\u00e8res et ses deux s\u0153urs, et participait aux travaux de la ferme.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00ab\u00a0Ma meilleure amie, c&rsquo;est ma m\u00e8re\u00a0\u00bb<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, disait Khoudia. <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00ab\u00a0Quand je suis tomb\u00e9e malade, elle m&rsquo;a soutenue et elle est rest\u00e9e avec moi tout le temps. Elle m&rsquo;aidait \u00e0 tout faire, et quand elle me parlait, elle me r\u00e9confortait et me redonnait espoir\u00a0\u00bb.<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Lorsque Khoudia a eu 16 ans, la tumeur est devenue extr\u00eamement douloureuse. Elle avait l&rsquo;impression que son visage \u00e9tait piqu\u00e9 par des aiguilles. Elle explique :<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> \u00ab\u00a0J&rsquo;avais mal au point de ne plus pouvoir voir\u00a0\u00bb<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Elle a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 envisager une op\u00e9ration. Bien que le navire-h\u00f4pital soit parti \u00e0 la suite de la pand\u00e9mie, Atta avait \u00e9tabli des contacts qui lui ont permis de se manifester lorsque l&rsquo;<\/span><em>Africa Mercy<\/em><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> a rouvert ses portes.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00ab\u00a0Elles \u00e9taient tellement heureuses d&rsquo;\u00eatre arriv\u00e9es ici\u00a0\u00bb,<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> d\u00e9clare Mary Toupin, une infirmi\u00e8re am\u00e9ricaine qui s&rsquo;est occup\u00e9e de Khoudia pendant son s\u00e9jour dans le service. <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00ab\u00a0Elles avaient fait un long voyage ensemble et \u00e9taient enfin parvenues \u00e0 ce jour tant attendu\u00a0\u00bb.<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Les chirurgiens b\u00e9n\u00e9voles de Mercy Ships ont pratiqu\u00e9 une parotidectomie gauche pour retirer la tumeur. Apr\u00e8s huit ans d&rsquo;une longue attente, cette op\u00e9ration maxillo-faciale a transform\u00e9 la vie des deux femmes.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00ab\u00a0Apr\u00e8s l&rsquo;op\u00e9ration, lorsqu&rsquo;on m&rsquo;a enlev\u00e9 les bandages et qu&rsquo;on m&rsquo;a donn\u00e9 un miroir\u00a0\u00bb,<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> se souvient Khoudia, \u00ab\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">je me suis regard\u00e9e et j&rsquo;ai dit : \u00ab\u00a0Wow !\u00a0\u00bb Le bonheur s&rsquo;est install\u00e9 en moi \u00e0 partir de ce jour-l\u00e0\u00a0\u00bb.<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Atta \u00e9tait \u00e0 ses c\u00f4t\u00e9s et partageait la joie de sa fille. \u00ab\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">J&rsquo;\u00e9tais si heureuse parce que je n&rsquo;aurais jamais cru voir un jour la joue de ma fille d\u00e9barrass\u00e9e de cette tumeur\u00a0\u00bb<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">L&rsquo;infirmi\u00e8re fran\u00e7aise Caroline Grob a \u00e9t\u00e9 marqu\u00e9e par le courage de Khoudia. <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00ab\u00a0J&rsquo;ai \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9poustoufl\u00e9e\u00a0\u00bb<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, explique-t-elle. <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00ab\u00a0Elle avait une \u00e9norme tumeur sur le visage et elle souriait. Elle ne s&rsquo;est jamais plainte.
