Pendant pr\u00e8s de la moiti\u00e9 de sa vie, elle a v\u00e9cu avec une tumeur au visage dont elle n\u2019arrivait pas \u00e0 gu\u00e9rir.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Je me sens tellement l\u00e9g\u00e8re dans mon c\u0153ur\u00a0\u00bb, s&rsquo;est-elle exclam\u00e9e quand elle a su qu\u2019elle allait \u00eatre op\u00e9r\u00e9e. \u00ab\u00a0J&rsquo;ai consult\u00e9 de nombreux m\u00e9decins, mais aucun n\u2019a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 me gu\u00e9rir.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Elle ne se souvient pas du moment exact o\u00f9 la tumeur a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 se d\u00e9velopper. Son souvenir le plus r\u00e9cent remonte \u00e0 l&rsquo;adolescence : un mal de dents avait provoqu\u00e9 une petite bosse qui n\u2019a cess\u00e9 de grossir.<\/p>\n<p>Les parents de Diarra l&rsquo;ont emmen\u00e9e dans plusieurs h\u00f4pitaux. Chaque visite \u00e9tait une \u00e9tape difficile, accentu\u00e9e par leurs maigres revenus de petits exploitants agricoles. Les frais m\u00e9dicaux \u00e9taient cons\u00e9quents, les obligeant \u00e0 choisir entre la gu\u00e9rison de leur fille et s&rsquo;occuper de leurs autres enfants. Finalement, ils ont cess\u00e9 de chercher une solution pour Diarra.<\/p>\n<p>Les jours se sont transform\u00e9s en ann\u00e9es, et la tumeur \u00e9tait toujours l\u00e0. \u00ab\u00a0Je suis tr\u00e8s affect\u00e9e, il y a beaucoup d&rsquo;activit\u00e9s que j&rsquo;aimerais faire, mais je ne peux pas\u00a0\u00bb, d\u00e9clarait Diarra.<\/p>\n<p>Des ann\u00e9es plus tard, Diarra a rencontr\u00e9 et \u00e9pous\u00e9 son mari. Devenir m\u00e8re avait \u00e9t\u00e9 son r\u00eave. Pourtant, une ombre planait au-dessus de cette all\u00e9gresse. \u00ab\u00a0Je dois \u00eatre en bonne sant\u00e9 pour m&rsquo;occuper d&rsquo;elle\u00a0\u00bb, se disait-elle.<\/p>\n<p>Le d\u00e9sir de gu\u00e9rir est devenu irr\u00e9sistible et urgent.<\/p>\n<p>En 2021, Diarra a entendu \u00e0 la radio que Mercy Ships, une organisation humanitaire internationale exploitant des navires-h\u00f4pitaux, revenait \u00e0 Dakar. \u00ab\u00a0L&rsquo;annonce disait qu&rsquo;ils offriraient des chirurgies gratuites aux personnes atteintes de tumeurs comme moi\u00a0\u00bb, raconte-t-elle. Sans intervention chirurgicale, ces tumeurs continuent de cro\u00eetre et peuvent bloquer les voies respiratoires, emp\u00eachant de respirer et de manger. Le Dr Josh Wiedermann, chirurgien am\u00e9ricain b\u00e9n\u00e9vole chez Mercy Ships, a expliqu\u00e9 que dans les pays \u00e0 revenus plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s, de tels cas pouvaient \u00eatre d\u00e9tect\u00e9s \u00e0 un stade pr\u00e9coce lors d&rsquo;examens dentaires de routine. Parce que Diarra n&rsquo;avait pas pu acc\u00e9der \u00e0 des soins chirurgicaux abordables en temps utiles, son l\u00e9ger mal de dents s&rsquo;\u00e9tait transform\u00e9 en une grave tumeur.<\/p>\n<p>Elle a finalement re\u00e7u la date tant attendue pour son op\u00e9ration \u00e0 bord de <em>l&rsquo;Africa Mercy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Diarra et son mari vivaient loin du navire, et voyager pour se faire op\u00e9rer signifiait quitter sa fille pour la premi\u00e8re fois. Mais l&rsquo;id\u00e9e de gu\u00e9rir a motiv\u00e9 son voyage de sept heures.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0J&rsquo;ai pri\u00e9 pendant si longtemps, nous avons cherch\u00e9 partout. Nous sommes si heureux !\u00a0\u00bb En attendant de monter \u00e0 bord du navire-h\u00f4pital, Diarra a laiss\u00e9 \u00e9clater son soulagement.<\/p>\n<p>La tumeur \u00e9tant ancr\u00e9e dans sa m\u00e2choire, une partie de celle-ci a d\u00fb \u00eatre enlev\u00e9e et une plaque m\u00e9tallique ins\u00e9r\u00e9e pour recr\u00e9er le profil de la m\u00e2choire. Elle devra attendre trois mois avant de subir une nouvelle intervention chirurgicale pour remplacer le m\u00e9tal par de l&rsquo;os.<\/p>\n<p>Lorsque<em> l&rsquo;Africa Mercy<\/em> a quitt\u00e9 Dakar en 2022, Diarra n&rsquo;\u00e9tait pas encore pr\u00eate pour une deuxi\u00e8me intervention chirurgicale, et elle a d\u00fb revenir en 2023, cette fois sur le <em>Global Nous avons perdu tellement d&rsquo;argent \u00e0 cause de cette maladie, et je n&rsquo;ai jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 op\u00e9r\u00e9e\u00a0\u00bb, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;op\u00e9ration de suivi sur le <em>Global Mercy<\/em> a \u00e9t\u00e9 beaucoup moins intimidante pour Diarra. \u00ab\u00a0Ma famille n&rsquo;arrivait pas \u00e0 croire que j&rsquo;avais subi non pas une, mais deux op\u00e9rations. Ils \u00e9taient tellement contents qu&rsquo;ils ont pleur\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Avant sa premi\u00e8re op\u00e9ration, Diarra s&rsquo;\u00e9tait isol\u00e9e pour se prot\u00e9ger du regard des curieux. \u00ab\u00a0Je voulais avoir un commerce, mais je ne pouvais pas aller au march\u00e9 parce que les gens me d\u00e9visageaient\u00a0\u00bb, se souvient-elle. Mais apr\u00e8s sa gu\u00e9rison, Diarra s&rsquo;est pleinement \u00e9panouie. Lib\u00e9r\u00e9e de sa tumeur, elle aspire \u00e0 se lancer dans l&rsquo;aventure de l&rsquo;entrepreneuriat. Le poids de l&rsquo;isolement et de la peur a disparu.<\/p>\n<p>Plus important encore que sa libert\u00e9, elle peut d\u00e9sormais envisager un avenir sain aupr\u00e8s de sa
