Ses parents ont vu tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t sa d\u00e9termination. \u00ab\u00a0Depuis qu&rsquo;il sait parler, s&rsquo;il veut quelque chose, il le dit clairement\u00a0\u00bb, souligne Abdou. \u00ab\u00a0Dieu lui a donn\u00e9 cet esprit de leadership ; il est n\u00e9 avec, et il partage tout avec tout le monde\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Les parents de Serigne ont pris sa personnalit\u00e9 extravertie comme un cadeau car ils savaient depuis son plus jeune \u00e2ge que sa vie ne serait pas facile. En effet, ses jambes ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 se d\u00e9former d\u00e8s l&rsquo;enfance. \u00c0 deux ans, ils ont remarqu\u00e9 qu&rsquo;il marchait de moins en moins vite et que cela lui faisait mal.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Au fur et \u00e0 mesure qu&rsquo;il grandissait, nous avons remarqu\u00e9 que ses jambes s&rsquo;arquaient lentement et nous avons compris ce qui l&#8217;emp\u00eachait d&rsquo;avancer\u00a0\u00bb. Ses parents craignaient que les limitations physiques et sociales g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es par sa pathologie n&rsquo;affectent sa confiance en lui. \u00ab\u00a0Ses jambes lui faisaient mal lorsqu&rsquo;il jouait et courait&#8230; il \u00e9tait diff\u00e9rent des autres enfants\u00a0\u00bb, se souvient Seye, sa m\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>Cependant, la maladie n&rsquo;a pas entam\u00e9 le moral de Serigne. \u00ab\u00a0C&rsquo;est un gar\u00e7on vraiment heureux, c&rsquo;est un battant&#8230; il a un mental d&rsquo;acier\u00a0\u00bb, souligne Seye.<\/p>\n<p>Mais au moment d&rsquo;entrer \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9cole, la diff\u00e9rence s&rsquo;est fait sentir. Les autres enfants se moquaient de Serigne et il se battait. Aussi, lorsqu&rsquo;ils ont appris qu&rsquo;il pouvait b\u00e9n\u00e9ficier d&rsquo;une op\u00e9ration s\u00fbre et gratuite gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 Mercy Ships, ils l&rsquo;ont imm\u00e9diatement emmen\u00e9 se faire examiner. \u00c9ligible pour l&rsquo;op\u00e9ration, il s&rsquo;est rendu avec sa m\u00e8re \u00e0 Dakar pour embarquer \u00e0 bord du plus r\u00e9cent navire-h\u00f4pital de l&rsquo;ONG, le <em>Global Mercy\u2122<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;op\u00e9ration qui a transform\u00e9 la vie de Serigne a dur\u00e9 quatre heures. Le Dr Johannes Kolbe, chirurgien orthop\u00e9dique b\u00e9n\u00e9vole originaire d&rsquo;Allemagne, faisait partie de l&rsquo;\u00e9quipe qui a op\u00e9r\u00e9 Serigne. Il a \u00e9voqu\u00e9 l&rsquo;impact profond qu&rsquo;il esp\u00e9rait que l&rsquo;op\u00e9ration aurait sur la vie de Serigne, en d\u00e9clarant : \u00ab\u00a0Nous pensons qu&rsquo;il pourra marcher, apprendre et aller \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9cole.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Si l&rsquo;op\u00e9ration a \u00e9t\u00e9 relativement rapide, le chemin vers la gu\u00e9rison de Serigne a n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 des semaines de r\u00e9\u00e9ducation intensive. Pendant cette p\u00e9riode, la r\u00e9silience qui le caract\u00e9rise a brill\u00e9 de mille feux. \u00ab\u00a0Il a tr\u00e8s envie de marcher. En fait, il n&rsquo;arr\u00eate pas de dire aux infirmi\u00e8res qu&rsquo;il veut marcher\u00a0\u00bb, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Ansley Burnett, infirmi\u00e8re-chef d&rsquo;unit\u00e9 de soins b\u00e9n\u00e9vole, quelques jours apr\u00e8s l&rsquo;op\u00e9ration de Serigne.<\/p>\n<p>Le r\u00e9tablissement a pris du temps, car Serigne a d\u00fb passer quelques semaines dans des pl\u00e2tres avant de pouvoir commencer \u00e0 faire de l&rsquo;exercice avec un d\u00e9ambulateur. Mais il a relev\u00e9 le d\u00e9fi \u00e0 chaque pas. \u00c0 la grande joie des patients et du personnel hospitalier, il a affront\u00e9 son parcours avec un sourire permanent et un rire contagieux qui r\u00e9sonnait dans les couloirs de l&rsquo;h\u00f4pital.<\/p>\n<p>Une fois de plus, Serigne a illustr\u00e9 l&rsquo;esprit de volont\u00e9 qui d\u00e9finit son nom. \u00ab\u00a0Serigne est une personne joyeuse ; o\u00f9 qu&rsquo;il soit, il est ouvert aux gens et les fait rire\u00a0\u00bb, d\u00e9clare Abdou.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n<style type=\"text\/css\"
