Jour apr\u00e8s jour, l\u2019\u00e9quipage du <em>Global Mercy<\/em> s\u2019est patiemment pr\u00e9par\u00e9 \u00e0 ce moment qui est enfin sur le point d\u2019arriver.<\/p>\n<p>Bient\u00f4t, le tout dernier navire de la flotte de Mercy Ships abaissera sa passerelle \u00e0 Dakar, au S\u00e9n\u00e9gal, pour accueillir des patients \u00e0 son bord et pour leur faire b\u00e9n\u00e9ficier de soins chirurgicaux qui leur changeront la vie.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>La pr\u00e9paration du navire<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Janet et Lawrence Adjei, originaires du Ghana, vivent \u00e0 bord du <em>Global Mercy <\/em>avec leurs quatre enfants, qui ont entre 5 et 13 ans. M\u00eame si les familles b\u00e9n\u00e9voles passent la majorit\u00e9 de leur temps en Afrique de l\u2019Ouest, la famille Adjei travaille depuis un an sur le <em>Global Mercy, <\/em>pour s\u2019assurer que le navire soit pr\u00eat \u00e0 accueillir ses tous premiers patients.<\/p>\n<p>Janet est maintenant impatiente de partir pour le S\u00e9n\u00e9gal en f\u00e9vrier.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ab\u00a0Pour la premi\u00e8re fois, ce navire con\u00e7u sur mesure va \u00eatre utilis\u00e9 sur le terrain et servir son objectif\u00a0\u00bb, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9. \u00ab C&rsquo;est incroyable\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Janet a senti l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re sur le navire changer. Le sentiment d\u2019impatience grandit, et de nouveaux membres d\u2019\u00e9quipage arrivent progressivement.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Voir les gens aller et venir, faire de nouvelles rencontres, et pr\u00e9parer l\u2019h\u00f4pital, c\u2019est vraiment exaltant,\u00a0\u00bb dit-elle. \u00ab Nous sommes impatients que le navire soit mis en \u0153uvre.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Pour Janet et ses enfants, le fait d\u2019enfin voir des patients se faire op\u00e9rer \u00e0 Dakar sera l&rsquo;accomplissement d&rsquo;une ann\u00e9e de pr\u00e9parations et de r\u00eaves.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab \u00c7a va \u00eatre beau de voir les patients arriver et \u00eatre gu\u00e9ris sur un plan physique, \u00e9motionnel et spirituel,\u00a0\u00bb dit-elle.<\/p>\n<p>Lawrence Adjei, ma\u00eetre d\u2019\u00e9quipage du <em>Global Mercy<\/em>, a rejoint Mercy Ships en 1991, servant un peu partout en Afrique de l\u2019Ouest. Mais depuis un an, il travaille d\u2019arrache-pied aux \u00eeles Canaries pour assurer la pr\u00e9paration du pont et de l\u2019\u00e9quipage de ce navire-h\u00f4pital tout neuf.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0C\u2019est un gros navire,\u00a0\u00bb dit-il en riant. \u00ab Plus de boulot, plus de choses \u00e0 faire. Et plus de personnes \u00e0 qui tendre la main.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0On pourra doubler le volume de travail que l\u2019on fournissait auparavant,\u00a0\u00bb a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 Lawrence.<\/p>\n<p>La taille et la conception sur-mesure du <em>Global Mercy <\/em>lui donnent la possibilit\u00e9 d\u2019aider plus de personnes que jamais. Cette capacit\u00e9 sera importante en 2023, lorsque Mercy Ships servira les patients de deux pays \u2013\u00a0le S\u00e9n\u00e9gal et la Gambie\u00a0\u2013 \u00e0 partir d\u2019un seul doute l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ment le plus r\u00e9jouissant de ce prochain service de terrain.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Ce sera un service de terrain historique,\u00a0\u00bb a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le directeur des services cliniques de Mercy Ships, Nathan Claus. \u00ab\u00a0C\u2019est un endroit vraiment incroyable\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019h\u00f4pital du <em>Global Mercy<\/em> offrira au service de terrain de nouvelles technologies et de plus grands espaces. Pour le service qui aura lieu au S\u00e9n\u00e9gal en 2023, il y aura tout d\u2019abord deux salles d\u2019op\u00e9ration qui fonctionneront de fa\u00e7on simultan\u00e9e pendant que l\u2019\u00e9quipage s\u2019habitue \u00e0 la nouvelle plateforme. On passera ensuite \u00e0 quatre salles d\u2019op\u00e9ration, et lors des missions suivantes, toutes les salles seront exploit\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab C\u2019est incroyable de penser \u00e0 toutes les op\u00e9rations et \u00e0 toutes les formations qu\u2019on va r\u00e9aliser ici, \u00bb dit Claus. \u00ab Et au nombre de patients, de soignants, de stagiaires, d\u2019\u00e9quipiers et d\u2019\u00e9quipiers de jour qui vont \u00eatre \u00e0 bord. Les ponts 3 et 4 vont d\u00e9border d\u2019activit\u00e9, et nous avons h\u00e2te de voir \u00e7a. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Le nouvel h\u00f4pital pr\u00e9sente plusieurs avantages. De nombreuses installations qui se trouvent habituellement en dehors du navire, comme les tentes m\u00e9dicales \u00e0 quai, sont maintenant \u00e0 son bord. a bien certaines personnes qui connaissent l\u2019importance d\u2019avoir une communaut\u00e9 \u00e0 bord du navire, ce sont les membres de la famille Kirchner.<\/p>\n<p>Beth Kirchner a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 faire du b\u00e9n\u00e9volat en tant qu\u2019enseignante \u00e0 l\u2019<em>Africa Mercy <\/em>Academy il y a six ans. Ses parents, Caroline et Mike, l\u2019ont rejointe au cours de l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab \u00c7a faisait des ann\u00e9es qu\u2019elle nous parlait de ce qu\u2019elle faisait, \u00bb dit Mike. \u00ab C\u2019est un vrai privil\u00e8ge de pouvoir voir \u00e7a de nos propres yeux. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Ils ont maintenant \u00e9t\u00e9 tous les trois transf\u00e9r\u00e9s au <em>Global Mercy<\/em>, ou Mike est professeur de sciences et de sciences sociales, et o\u00f9 Caroline dirige l\u2019\u00e9quipe d\u2019accueil.<\/p>\n<p>Les Kirchners profitent au maximum du temps pass\u00e9 ensemble sur le navire, organisant r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement des d\u00e9jeuners et des week-ends pour partir \u00e0 l\u2019aventure.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Nous sommes tous dans le m\u00eame bateau, litt\u00e9ralement \u00bb, dit Caroline. \u00ab Autant en tirer le meilleur parti et donner un sens \u00e0 cette exp\u00e9rience. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;\u00e9quipe de Caroline est charg\u00e9e d&rsquo;accueillir les nouveaux membres de l&rsquo;\u00e9quipage, et elle fait bon usage de cette position.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Ma m\u00e8re est la premi\u00e8re personne \u00e0 rencontrer tous ceux qui viennent \u00e0 bord, \u00bb dit Beth.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline veille \u00e0 ce que chaque nouveau b\u00e9n\u00e9vole soit au courant de toutes les activit\u00e9s auxquelles on peut participer. Les Kirchner organisent une soir\u00e9e cin\u00e9ma tous les vendredis et organisent r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement des soir\u00e9es jeux. Et ils rassemblent les fans de la s\u00e9rie \u00ab The Chosen \u00bb pour qu\u2019ils la regardent tous ensemble le mardi.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Il faut prendre l\u2019initiative de b\u00e2tir une communaut\u00e9 sur ce navire, \u00bb dit Mike. \u00ab C\u2019est un nouveau <em>Global Mercy<\/em>\u2026 Il y a beaucoup de personnes qui arrivent seules, elles ne connaissent personne. On veut qu\u2019elles se sentent int\u00e9gr\u00e9es. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Beth a pass\u00e9 plusieurs ann\u00e9es au sein d\u2019une \u00e9quipe bien \u00e9tablie sur <em>l\u2019Africa Mercy<\/em>, qui avait ses propres traditions. Elle dit qu\u2019elle se sent maintenant comme chez elle \u00e0 bord du <em>Global Mercy<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab C\u2019est un peu diff\u00e9rent car l\u2019espace est diff\u00e9rent, \u00bb dit-elle.\u00a0 \u00ab Mais je pense que \u00e7a peut devenir une communaut\u00e9 tr\u00e8s similaire \u00e9tant donn\u00e9 que c\u2019est un grand groupe de personnes qui ont toutes un objectif commun. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Mike et Caroline ont tous deux eu l&rsquo;occasion de voir l&rsquo;<em>Africa Mercy <\/em>en action, ne serait-ce que pour un petit moment. Mais ils savent que beaucoup de leurs coll\u00e8gues n&rsquo;ont jamais vu la joie qui r\u00e9sulte d&rsquo;une op\u00e9ration chirurgicale r\u00e9ussie.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Ils n&rsquo;ont pas encore eu cette exp\u00e9rience visc\u00e9rale \u00bb, dit Caroline. \u00ab Je suis donc tr\u00e8s enthousiaste \u00e0 l&rsquo;id\u00e9e que tout le monde sur le navire puisse en faire l&rsquo;exp\u00e9rience. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Entre-temps, Caroline fait visiter l&rsquo;h\u00f4pital \u00e0 autant de b\u00e9n\u00e9voles du <em>Global Mercy<\/em> que possible.<\/p>\n<p>Et lorsqu&rsquo;ils entrent dans la salle d&rsquo;op\u00e9ration \u00e9tincelante du <em>Global Mercy<\/em>, elle l&rsquo;imagine telle qu&rsquo;elle le sera bient\u00f4t : Le ronronnement du mat\u00e9riel chirurgical, les lits des patients couverts de couettes et de peluches, et les vies qui se transforment.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 chaque fois qu\u2019elle y entre, dit Caroline, \u00e7a lui revient. \u00ab Ah oui, c\u2019est pour \u00e7a qu\u2019on est l\u00e0. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p><em>Le Global Mercy est sur le point de naviguer vers le S\u00e9n\u00e9gal pour servir ses premiers patients !
