Un \u00e9v\u00e8nement tant attendu se profilait \u00e0 l\u2019horizon, avec le tout nouveau navire de Mercy Ships, le <em>Global Mercy<\/em>, qui est apparu, naviguant au loin.<\/p>\n<p>Con\u00e7u pour apporter espoir et gu\u00e9rison aux nations dont la capacit\u00e9 chirurgicale est limit\u00e9e, le <em>Global Mercy<\/em> est maintenant pr\u00eat \u00e0 remplir sa mission. 2023 sera la premi\u00e8re ann\u00e9e de chirurgies sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9es gratuites \u00e0 bord du navire, dont la dur\u00e9e de vie est estim\u00e9e \u00e0 50 ans.<\/p>\n<p>Quand le navire est arriv\u00e9 dans le port, l\u2019\u00e9quipage a \u00e9t\u00e9 accueilli par les danses et les chants de ceux qui l\u2019attendaient sur le quai, y compris ceux des membres d\u2019\u00e9quipage de jour s\u00e9n\u00e9galais. Joie et effervescence sans pareil flottaient dans l\u2019air.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Nous avons cherch\u00e9 des patients et nous leur avons dit d&rsquo;attendre. Maintenant, ils n&rsquo;ont plus \u00e0 attendre ! \u00bb a c\u00e9l\u00e9br\u00e9 Eric Diatta, membre s\u00e9n\u00e9galais de l&rsquo;\u00e9quipe de s\u00e9lection des patients.<\/p>\n<p>Ce service de terrain marque une autre \u00ab premi\u00e8re \u00bb<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>pour Mercy Ships, une organisation qui a plus de 30 ans d&rsquo;histoire en Afrique. Et cette ann\u00e9e, nous sommes ravis de servir deux nations \u00e0 partir d\u2019un seul port. L&rsquo;arriv\u00e9e du Global Mercy \u00e0 Dakar cette semaine est d\u2019une signification toute particuli\u00e8re pour notre \u00e9quipe, car cette ann\u00e9e, nous servirons les populations du S\u00e9n\u00e9gal et de la Gambie gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des partenariats avec leurs minist\u00e8res de la sant\u00e9,\u00a0\u00bb explique Gert van de Weerdhof, PDG de Mercy Ships. \u00ab Nous pr\u00e9voyons que plus de 800 interventions chirurgicales maxillo-faciales, orthop\u00e9diques p\u00e9diatriques, p\u00e9diatriques g\u00e9n\u00e9rales, g\u00e9n\u00e9rales et ophtalmologiques seront r\u00e9alis\u00e9es \u00e0 bord du navire au cours des cinq prochains mois, et que jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 25% des patients viendront de Gambie. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Ces nombreuses chirurgies seront rendues possibles gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on dont le <em>Global Mercy <\/em>a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u, avec son am\u00e9nagement complet comprenant six salles d\u2019op\u00e9ration, un laboratoire, des cliniques g\u00e9n\u00e9rales pour les patients en consultation externe et des cliniques dentaires et ophtalmologiques \u00e0 bord du navire. Le navire peut accueillir 200 patients, et les ponts de l&rsquo;h\u00f4pital occupent une superficie totale de 7\u00a0000 m\u00e8tres carr\u00e9s et abritent les tous nouveaux centres de formation.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00e9sormais amarr\u00e9 au port, le navire peut accueillir jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 950 personnes. Il s&rsquo;agit d&rsquo;une communaut\u00e9 form\u00e9e de b\u00e9n\u00e9voles venant du monde entier, qui servent pendant des p\u00e9riodes allant de quelques semaines \u00e0 plusieurs ann\u00e9es. Chaque membre de l\u2019\u00e9quipage vient \u00e0 Mercy Ships pour travailler b\u00e9n\u00e9volement dans son domaine d&rsquo;expertise, des services hospitaliers \u00e0 la cuisine, en passant par la salle des machines.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00eame s&rsquo;il s&rsquo;agit du premier service chirurgical de terrain du navire, c&rsquo;est sa deuxi\u00e8me visite au S\u00e9n\u00e9gal. En 2022, le <em>Global Mercy<\/em> a accost\u00e9 dans le port de Dakar pendant plusieurs semaines pour se consacrer \u00e0 la formation m\u00e9dicale. Plus de 260 professionnels de sant\u00e9 s\u00e9n\u00e9galais sont mont\u00e9s \u00e0 bord pour recevoir une formation \u00e0 travers des cours portant sur des sujets ayant un lien avec la dispensation de soins chirurgicaux s\u00fbrs, notamment les comp\u00e9tences chirurgicales, l&rsquo;anesth\u00e9sie (programme de formation SAFE) et les comp\u00e9tences en soins infirmiers. Cette ann\u00e9e, cet objectif sera poursuivi par une s\u00e9rie de formations \u00e0 bord du navire et dans les h\u00f4pitaux s\u00e9n\u00e9galais partenaires.
