Raymond Akparibo

Raymond Akparibo is a results-oriented and altruistically driven finance and grants management professional with over 25 years of experience managing donor-funded projects across Africa and Asia. He specializes in financial oversight for humanitarian, health, and population development initiatives, with proven expertise in aligning project execution with the financial, regulatory, and reporting requirements of international donors.

From 2006 to 2019, Raymond held the position of Senior Finance and Operations Manager at INDEPTH Network in Accra, Ghana, an international NGO headquartered in Accra. Over 13 years, he successfully managed and reported on more than $100 million in multi-donor grants, overseeing financial systems across 42 institutions in Africa and Asia. He developed and implemented comprehensive financial procedures, conducted compliance reviews, and led pre-award assessments and capacity-building efforts for grantees. He also served as Senior Accountant at the Navrongo Health Research Centre (NHRC), where he managed finances for research projects funded by international funding institutions. He briefly held the role of Senior Accountant and Team Lead at Regional Hospital, Bolgatanga, where he significantly reduced financial reporting delays and increased internal revenue through process improvement.

Raymond is experienced in financial reporting and compliance for a wide range of donors, including The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, DFID, USAID, DANIDA, UNICEF, National Institutes of Health (NIH), WHO, The World Bank, Wellcome Trust, Hewlett Foundation, the European Union/Commission, Jhpiego, UNDP, SIDA, CIDA, EDCTP, GAVI, PATH, CDC, and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). He has consistently maintained clean audits and donor satisfaction across more than 15 funding relationships, ensuring accurate reporting, risk mitigation, and adherence to international financial standards. Raymond also led the annual filing of IRS Form 990 on behalf of NDEPTH’s 501(c) status, served as Finance Director at Fountain Gate Chapel in Ghana, and supervised multinational finance teams in more than 20 countries in Africa and Asia.

Raymond joined Mercy Ships in June of 2021, and now serves as Finance Director for the Africa Services at Mercy Ships, leading budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls for programs supporting two hospital ships and several land-based medical interventions across Africa. He manages the financials for Mercy Ships in the Africa region by ensuring donor compliance, streamlining treasury functions, and supporting the strategic and operational needs of the organization’s country engagement teams. His role also involves senior-level financial policy reviews of site assessments of local partners and advice on finance staffing.

Raymond has presented at various international conferences, including the World Congress of Accountants in Rome, CGMA Africa Conference in South Africa, and other international conferences, and has published in 2 international journals. He holds an International Executive MBA in Finance from the Paris Graduate School of Management, a Professional Postgraduate Certificate in Management, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Finance.
