- Increasing the number of surgical providers, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses
- Training local support staff like biomedical technicians, sterilizers, dietitians, and hospital managers
- Developing sustainable and accredited education programs in partnership with local teachers
- Advocating at a local, national, and international level for surgery to be prioritized within the nation’s healthcare system
This work takes place on our hospital ships, in local hospitals, and at local universities. Mercy Ships works closely with leaders of partner nations, like Senegalese health minister Professor Habib Ndiaye, who said, “In terms of partnerships, I would like to highlight the considerable contribution made by the Mercy Ships program in meeting the very high demand with regards to orthopedic surgery.”
Solutions for a lasting impact.
Mercy Ships works with host nations to achieve lasting impact by supporting and investing in local healthcare workers; donating and repairing equipment; providing technical resources; renovating medical facilities; and advocating for in-country surgical providers to receive the resources they need to deliver a sustainable, high quality of care.
