Dr. Juliette Tuakli

Dr. Juliette has been Mercy Ships’ Diplomatic Ambassador for Africa since 2022. In this role she supports the activation of strategic partnerships with governments, diplomatic entities, communities, and social organizations that build awareness, engagement and create opportunities for Mercy Ships to partner with nations.

She fosters new relationships and strengthens existing ones across the continent for Mercy Ships in its mission to bring hope and healing.

Founder and Medical Director of CHILD Accra, Dr. Juliette is a highly acclaimed pediatrician and reproductive health specialist. She was the first African woman clinical professor in Pediatrics at Harvard Medical/Children’s of Boston.

As first female Rotary president of the premier Anglophone club in Ghana, West Africa, Dr. Tuakli promoted legislation to protect orphaned, disabled and vulnerable children. Her work was hailed by the African Union in 2016. She was elected to the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative.

In 2022, Dr. Tuakli retired from United Way Worldwide as the first female Chair of the International Board of Trustees.Previously, she had chaired both the Membership and the Governance Committees.

She served on the Mercy Ships International Board for over 10 years and remains on the Mercy Ships UK Board. Dr. Tuakli co-founded MOREMI Girls Leadership and has served as an Advisor to Nestle, the African Union, and other international organizations. She is a Board member of Zenith Bank, CarePoint and the Global Virus Network.

In Boston, her earlier research/service at Children’s Hospital of Boston led to a new Community Medicine Department. She served on the Harvard School of Public Health’s Child Health Advisory Board, AIDS Commission, World Education and Boston Conservatory Music.

Dr. Tuakli received a UN Global Citizen Award, Leadership awards from Boston’s Head Start, US Women and Nigerian Diaspora Organizations including several lifetime achievement awards including a recent one from the African Healthcare Awards and Summit (AHAS).

In May 2022, Dr. Tuakli officially christened the Global MercyTM during special inaugural ceremonies for Mercy Ships’ newest hospital ship, during Africa celebrations hosted by the HE President Macky Sall in Dakar, Senegal.
