International Symposium on Strengthening Surgical, Obstetric and Anaesthetic Care Systems in Africa
Press releaseDAKAR, SENEGAL - 27 April 2022: As Mercy Ships marks its 30 years of service in Africa, the global humanitarian organisation will strengthen its partnerships with African countries and stakeholders in the health sector by co-hosting a number of events in May and June 2022. The first event will be an International Symposium (IS) on Strengthening Surgical, Obstetric and Anaesthetic Care Systems in Africa by 2030 between May 4 - 6 in Dakar, Senegal.

On February 1st, the ship returned to the port of Dakar to bring hope and healing to these patients and their families.

First patient received aboard Mercy Ships after historic return to Africa

Docked in the autonomous port of Dakar since February 1st this floating hospital has resumed its original mission to provide free surgeries and medical training on the continent after a 22-month pause caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ship's presence is expected to last until November 2022.
